A day after a 20-year-old Delhi University student claimed she was attacked with acid near Laxmi Bai College, investigators began questioning her father and raised serious doubts about the authenticity of the incident. The main suspect, identified as Jitender, insisted he was not at the spot, and call records confirmed his presence in the Karol Bagh area at the time. Police officials described the allegations as “suspicious” since no concrete evidence has surfaced. The student, a second-year B.Com learner under the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board, said the accused threw acid from close range, injuring her hands when she tried to shield her face. She named two others, Ishan and Arman—distant relatives involved in a property dispute with her family—as accompanying the attacker. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the area but found no sign of Jitender near the location, and no acid traces were discovered on nearby walls. The victim was treated at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, which informed the police immediately. Officials said the inquiry remains open, with multiple aspects under review, including the statements of the accused and the role of the victim’s family.
