A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping an Indian-origin woman in what police suspect to be a racist attack in the United Kingdom. The arrest took place in the Perry Barr area, West Midlands Police said on Monday. The man is being questioned in connection with the assault of a woman in her 20s, who was attacked on Saturday night in the Park Hall area of Walsall. Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer of the Public Protection Unit described the arrest as a significant development, thanking those who came forward with information following the police appeal. He added that the woman has been informed about the arrest and will continue to receive full support from specially trained officers. Police have urged the public to share any relevant CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage, quoting log 4027 of 25 October, to assist in the investigation. Earlier, police had released CCTV footage showing the suspect—a white man in his 30s with short or thinning hair, dressed in dark clothing—walking through what appeared to be a park. Local community groups identified the victim as a Punjabi woman and voiced concern over rising racially motivated crimes, noting that this incident follows the recent racially aggravated rape of a British Sikh woman in nearby Oldbury. Police teams remain deployed in the area to gather forensic evidence and build a detailed profile of the attacker.
