Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) shelled out INR 11.50 crore for West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph in the auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that took place on Tuesday, December 19 in Dubai.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started the bidding for Joseph at a base price of INR 1 crore after which Delhi Capitals (DC) marked their presence. At INR 2.80 crore, the Super Kings backed out. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) joined the bidding and fought with the Capitals, who gave up the ghost at INR 6.60 crore.
It also happened to be the first player that RCB bought in the auction. Earlier, they went hard at Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins, who eventually went to the Sunrisers Hyderabad at a stunning price of INR 20.50 crores.
As far as Joseph is concerned, he holds the record for the best bowling figures in the IPL. Back in 2019, he finished with figures of 3.4-1-12-6 while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their match against the Sunrisers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
In 19 matches in the IPL, Joseph picked up 20 wickets at an economy rate of 9.19. He was with the Gujarat Titans (GT) before making a move to RCB.
Joseph recently played three T20Is against England after which he has been rested for the last two matches of the series. The pacer will now be getting ready for the Test series against Australia.
